What is your every day or go to hairstyle?
My routine is pretty set in stone…. Shower at night, wake up the next morning and straighten my hair. The following day I will spritz a little dry shampoo (I love the OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Dry Shampoo) and loosely curl it with a 1.5in curling iron leaving the ends out for a beachy look. So, my go-to is definitely worn in messy curls with a lot of texture! It is such an effortless look that lasts me a few days because my hair thankfully holds a curl like nobody’s business.
Have you ever tried any drastic or out-of-character hairstyles?
I actually had hair down to my lower back until I graduated high school. My hair got me the “best hair” superlative in the yearbook, it was so long haha! I have gone through 2 major hair waves. I chopped it off to a lob to start. That was a huge chance and definitely has shaped my style. Next, on a whim I got bangs. Not the best decision but my hair grows fast so they didn’t hang around too long. I also love experimenting with the colored hairsprays. They wash right out and it’s such a fun way to change up your look for a day.
What is one non-negotiable part of your hair-care or styling routine?
The non-negotiable item would have to hands down be my purple shampoo and conditioner from Joico. My hair pulls brassy and that is not my favorite look, I can’t live without a purple shampoo or a good texturizing product like R+Co Badlands.
What is your favorite hair-care secret to gorgeous hair? (Ex - using hair masks, curling hair with a straightener, putting hair up in a microfiber towel, etc.)
Thankfully my hair is pretty strong, but if it wasn’t I know I would religiously use a heat protectant. Since breakage is really not on my radar, my secret would have to be to not over wash it. I typically go 3-4 days with the help of a dry shampoo and I think over washing really strips the hair of what makes it shine. Also mixing shampoos, almost like a cocktail. I use Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak shampoo mixed with my Joico when my scalp needs a little refresh.
Who is your hair inspiration or hair goals? Why?
Oh gosh, this is hard… I would have to say, Rosie Huntington Whiteley or Julianne Hough. Their lobs are just so stunning. Her cut is what I show my stylist. Lucy Hale also has banging hair.
If you could magically change your hair to any length and color for one day, what would your dream hair look like?
I love my length now so I wouldn’t change anything there but I would die to try and go blonde or the mint green or teal that Kylie Jenner did a while back!
What are you most proud of about your hair?
How thick my hair is for sure. My hair is so thick... which is nice because it gives me a lot of volumes, never looks flat, and doesn’t break easily.
How did you figure out what haircut/color is most flattering for you?
Like I mentioned before I had long hair for most of my life. When I cut it I realized how mature I looked. It’s been years of experimenting but after finding my balayage artist my life changed. Having lighter tones at the bottom warms up my overall skin tone and keeps me looking awake. It took a lot of time, don’t rush it!
If you had to pick one quote or short piece advice to promote hair confidence and acceptance, what would it be?
“You can’t control everything in life. Your hair was put on your head to remind you of that.” There will be days where your hair won’t cooperate, we all have them. Just rock a messy bun and tackle the day.
