We believe in beauty your way.
We take an innovative approach to hair care to create products that save time, save energy, and, perhaps most importantly, save your hair.
Innovative design
Re-Thinking Heat
Traditional hair dryers create heat using a nichrome wire, like your toaster oven. This kind of heat-- convection-- heats the air around your locks and dries from the outside in, and causes quite a bit of heat damage (think of your strands like a piece of toast).
In the process of research and development for the cordless hair dryer, we found infrared heat. Infrared head is radiant heat, like the sun. It’s penetrative, meaning it heats the hair evenly from the inside out. It’s energy efficient, which is why it works so well for the VOLO Go, but it’s also gentler on hair and extremely efficient. Suffice to say, we think infrared heat rocks.
Leveling up haircare
Introducing NANOWEAVE™
R&D for the VOLO Go took us on something of a hair care journey ourselves. When talking to women about how they did their hair, we realized there were other spaces for innovation-- namely, hair towels. Tons of women told us about how they wrap their hair up in bath towels only to cause friction on the hair, and frustration every time the towel unraveled and fell off.
Nanoweave™, the star of our VOLO Hero, was the solution. It’s cloud-level soft, super light, and extremely absorbent. With the addition of our grippy strap, the VOLO Hero was born. We love Nanoweave™ so much, we made her into Sidekicks, too: the Scrunchies, and the Spa Headband.
Our Superstars
Have a great hair day
Taken together, the VOLO Hero and the VOLO Go are a match made in heaven, if we do say so ourselves. They are hair care made to go wherever you are, not the other way around. Safer, gentler, freer, simpler products meant to emphasize you. After all, when you shine, we shine.
How we cut the cord
Hair dryer 1.0
The hair dryer in your bathroom isn’t much different from the original handheld hair dryer that hit the market in the 1920s. Though there have been big improvements in wattage, most dryers still rely on the same basic element for heating and power.
2016: Our hand-made prototype
Meet VOLO’s north star. We created this non-functioning prototype in 2016 at the beginning of our R & D. It has remained our inspiration for the design direction of the final VOLO Go Cordless Dryer!
“The Knobster”
“The Knobster” was our first fully-functioning prototype for a battery-powered hair dryer, affectionately named because of the large knob on the side to control power.
Introducing Infrared
This was our first prototype that used a full-powered quartz-infrared heating element, the very same heating element in the final VOLO Go Cordless Dryer. At this point we realized that infrared heat performed at salon-quality levels. We think of her as “The Breakthrough.”
“The Silver Bullet”
Not every prototype makes it to the finish line-- “The Silver Bullet” was a failed attempt at 3D printing, but one that still proved priceless in helping VOLO to secure our second round of angel investment.
Touch Down
The VOLO Go Cordless Dryer in all her glory. We finalized battery functionality and worked to package all the battery cells into the sleek design you know as the VOLO Go. Five years in the making, we think the hard work paid off.
