DIY Milk & Honey Hair Mask
The holidays can wreak havoc on your hair, so we have the perfect DIY hair mask to revive your hair and help you look your best in 2021! At VOLO Beauty, we know that this new year means a new you, and we’re determined to help! We’ve been busy testing out different hair masks and products that combat any winter hair damage, so you don’t have to! And we’ve found our absolute favorite hair mask yet: Milk & Honey Hair Mask!
Milk and honey has always been a classic combo, but ever wonder why? Milk is actually a wonderful moisturizer for both your hair and skin. The lactic acid is one of the natural AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids) found in whole milk and in many other skincare products. The fat in milk also helps to nourish dry, damaged hair, so it’s best to use whole milk when making this mask!
Like milk, honey is also an incredible moisturizer for both your hair and skin. Studies show that honey can actually help with hair growth and shine! Honey has emollient and humectant properties, which help to make hair healthier! Emollients help to smooth the hair follicles and add extra shine to dull, lifeless hair. Humectants bond with water molecules, which can add extra moisture to dry hair -- essential for those dry and cold winter months!
What You’ll Need:
- ½ cup of whole milk for short hair or 1 cup of whole milk for long hair
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 spray bottle
Step-by-Step:
- Depending on your hair length, pour the amount you need of whole milk into a small cup.
- Add the honey into the milk.
- Warm the milk and honey slightly. We used the microwave, but the stovetop will do too! Slightly warming the ingredients allows them to blend better together.
- Whisk the milk & honey together and pour into a spray bottle.
- Spray onto your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes!
This hair mask will make your hair and scalp feel extra smooth and soft after application. Our intern, Sarah, tried the hair mask out herself and had some helpful tips for when applying this hair mask:
“Make sure to section your hair and spray each section individually using a spray bottle. This is definitely a runny hair mask, so be sure to do this in the shower or over the sink. After you apply the hair mask and ensure that your hair is fully coated, put your hair in a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then, wash your hair with your favorite shampoo and conditioner. And voila! My hair was so incredibly soft and moisturized -- it looked like I just came from the salon!”
Say hello to 2021 with glowing, moisturized hair! It’s time to treat yourself this new year and try the Milk & Honey Hair Mask!
