What is your every day or go to hairstyle?

A top knot.

Have you ever tried any drastic or out-of-character hairstyles?

I have worn a pixie cut before but it’s been awhile. There was a point in my life when I just chopped it all off. It was low-maintenance, cute, and I got a lot of compliments.

What is one non-negotiable part of your hair-care or styling routine?

I love my hairstylist Debbie. I would be really nervous or scared to go anywhere else. I would also feel disloyal! She’s been with me through divorce, birth, different hair lengths; I trust her implicitly. I refer a lot of people and friends to her. It’s a little bit of a conflict of interest because the more friends I refer, the harder it is to get an appointment. But I do it because she is so amazing.

What is your favorite hair-care secret to gorgeous hair? (Ex - using hair masks, curling hair with a straightener, putting hair up in a microfiber towel, etc.)

Shampoo is really important. So is starting with good products, even if you want to be really minimal about it. The blow dryer you use is really important. Trying to replicate that salon blowout look at home is hard if you don’t have good tools. I have slightly wavy hair so I need heat and round brush. You can’t really achieve the look with a crappy hotel blow dryer which means you’re going to have to bring your own flat iron or curling iron.

Who is your hair inspiration or hair goals? Why?

Debbie. Some people think that the perfect top knot is effortless, but it’s not. It takes a lot of skill. She understands how to manipulate hair, different types of hair, and how everyone’s hair behaves. She’s a hair guru. And I look to her for mentorship and training on how to keep my hair under control.

If you could magically change your hair to any length and color for one day, what would your dream hair look like?

That’s a tough one because I’d either go crazy mermaid hair with my current hair color, down to my butt. Or get a pixie cut and enjoy the freedom of that for the day. Either super long or super short with my hair color.

What are you most proud of about your hair?

It’s healthy. I think that the most important thing. No matter length or style, it’s important to keep it healthy and trim the ends.

How did you figure out what haircut/color is most flattering for you?

I relied on my hairdresser’s expertise. I told her I wanted to go lighter, and she introduced me to “bronde”. She did a bronde balayage and that’s what I’ve stuck with. I’m in love with it!

If you had to pick one quote or short piece advice to promote hair confidence and acceptance, what would it be?

"Messy hair don’t care". Again, I'd really like to promote the thought that if your hair is healthy and if you're happy with your color, then even on the days where you don’t have your hairstyle together...you can still be confident you have healthy, beautiful hair. You can still be beautiful and feel confident in a top knot.
